JEXPO is conducted by West Bengal State Council of Technical Education (WBSCTE) for selection of candidates for admission into Government, Government Aided and Self Financing Polytechnic institutes in Diploma Courses. JEXPO allows the students to get admission into First year of Diploma Courses offered in the college located with the state.

The entrance examination will evaluate the subject knowledge of the candidate related to Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and on the basis of the performance of the candidate in the examination, candidates will be shortlisted and offered admission to the institutes by the means of counselling.


In this article we will throw some light on JEXPO exam, eligibility, application process and other details:


Eligibility: The student needs to full fill the following conditions to be eligible for the examination:

For Fresh Admission: 
  • Age: There is no upper limit for the students to appear in the examination while regarding the lower limit candidate must be born before July 01, 2000.
  • Academic Qualification: The student needs to be either appearing in the class 10 examinations or should have cleared his/her class 10 examination.
  • Minimum Qualifying Marks: The applicant should have scored at least 35% marks in class 10 to appear in the exam.


For Lateral Entry:
  • Academic qualification: The student must have cleared class 12 examinations with Science subjects or Class 10 with 2 years ITI program to stand eligible for lateral entry to second year of the diploma course.


Application Process: The application process of Diploma Entrance Examination is completely offline and the students can obtain the application form from all the WBSCTE affiliated polytechnic colleges and various centers authorized by the council.

Application Fee: In order to participate in the examination, candidates should pay examination fee of Rs. 500.

Submission of Application: Completely filled application form along with all the required documents can be submitted to any of the WBSCTE affiliated polytechnic college and council authorized centers.

Reservation: As per the reservation norms of the state, a certain percent of seats in Government & Government aided colleges are reserved, the details are :
  • For SC candidates: 22% 
  • For ST candidates: 6%
  • For Physical Challenged candidates: 3%
  • Land Looser Quota (LLQ): 2%
  • District Quota: 20% seats in polytechnic in each district will be reserved for the candidates belonging to the respective district. 
  • Female Quota: Out of the District Quota, 25% seats are reserved for female candidates.
  • In case of non-availability of suitable candidates under reserved category, the seats remaining unoccupied will be converted into general category.
